FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How many times can I visit as a guest before joining?

A: As many times as you like.

What does it cost to be a member?

A: Currently, the cost to members is $45.00 every six months.  $27.00 of the total goes to Toastmasters International for dues and the club ratains the balance to cover operational costs such as awards, ballots, contest expenses, etc.  New members pay a prorated portion of the $45 depending on when they join, plus $21.55 which gives you both your Communication and Leadership manuals and a one-time new club member fee of $5.00.  Every question you might have will be addressed in detail if you are interesed in becoming a member.

How do I become a member?

A: Obtain a membership application from the Vice President of Membership or from another officer. Fill out the form and turn it in with the appropriate dues. There is a Toastmaster International requirement, that you be voted in by the Club Membership. Within a week to ten days, the Communications and Leadership Manuals will be sent to you from Toastmasters International along with the Toastmaster Magazine, a monthly magazine which comes with your membership.

What happens after I join?

A: When you first visit a Toastmaster club, you can feel overwhelmed.  Not only is the jargon unfamilar, but so are the duties, the culture and the expectations. One of the strengths of the Speaking Machine Toastmasters is that we immediately assign a senior member as a mentor to help you through every aspect of your journey in our club.  They will not only help you prepare for your roles in our meeting but also help you prepare for your first speaking assignments.  Our Vice President of Education will work with you on when to schedule your first speech.

What if I can’t make the meetings every week?

A: We always encourage you to make as many meetings as you can simply because the more you attend, the quicker you will develop your skills. However, we know that life happens and not everyone is able to attend every meeting.  We will work with you to meet your goals and can easily accommodate your schedule.

When do you meet, what time and where again?

A:  We meet every Tuesday evening at Round Table Pizza, 10054 Bruceville Road, Elk Grove, CA from 7:00-8:30 PM.
